I have returned from my 3-day sojourn to Alaska and am, at this very moment, sitting back at my desk. With a small hiatus behind me, I am back to display the latest news in geekery to my insistent audience of four. Or was it five?
For instance, here's a story that caught my eye: Apparently the latest trend in ring tones among high school students is to use a "Mosquito" tone - a tone so high that adults past their 20's have just enough high-end hearing loss to render it inaudible. The sound itself was originally created in Great Britain for shop owners to broadcast outside their doors. It was supposedly, high enough to annoy teenage loiterers without offending middle-age shoppers.
And kids turned it into an invisible ring tone. Now THAT is ingenuity.
